The BEST EVER stay !

Oh my goodness! What an incredible weekend our families had celebrating the engagement of Jess and Matthew on July 1, 2023. (Though we made a whole weekend of it - 6/30 - 7/2)
Norman and John could not have been more accommodating or gracious - and truly went above and beyond to ensure not only the engagement couple were happy - but the rest of the family and guests were as well. For every ask we had - it was either "sure!" or "let me work on this for you." Truly - exceptional service with an honest desire to make the bride happy. The Mansion is so beautiful - the garden - absolutely delightful and the service was impeccable.
Oh- I would be remiss if I didn't mention the accommodations. They are all so unique and fun. (Also- great cotton sheets, great towels, great amenities overall.) Many of us were in the carriage house which was PERFECT for our group! We loved every single option there - and got such a kick out of the games, the lounge area and Gertrudes for sure. (And was the perfect place to have the food for the Engagement Party.)
Our guests who stayed in the Mansion were equally as delighted.
And the icing on the cake: THE TROLLEY! This was so much fun! We had guests pre-event doing the Lake of the Isles Tour and were blown away by the history and knowledge they gained. And on Saturday - many of us hopped on the tour on early side (5p-6p) took the hop on hop off tour (of course none of us hopped off since we had so much to learn from John, our guide!) . The later group - i.e. the Bride/Groom and future wedding party definitely "hopped off" and had a fabulous evening partying - with the knowledge they didn't have to drive anywhere, since they could hop on the '
Trolley. Norman and John, - we can't thank you enough for EVERYTHING!

It was an experience.

I went for the experience and it was nice. Went on the trolley and that was a fun experience. For the room, just a tip, there should have been cups for drinking water and bar soap. I forgot mine but it would have been nice to have that in the shower. We never got our breakfast voucher either so that should have come off our room. We went in the am to find someone to give us the voucher and could not find anyone.

Strange cancellation policy.

It is a nice alternative to the typical hotel experience. We were OK with the minimal staff support, old furnishings, minimal amenities in the rooms, the "no shoes" policy, and the add-on fees for "cleaning", "resort" and "parking" But, when I just tried to rebook for a date that is 3 months out from now I read that the cancellation date has already passed. That doesn't work for us since life can have its ups and downs between now and much closer to then. I've asked for clarification, and we'll see if they respond. BTW - Our last visit was before the earliest date I could pick from the drop down list.

NOT LUXURY AS ADVERTISED

My daughter and I stayed at 300 Clifton for three nights. I was careful to reread the website prior to writing this because at many points during our stay we were in disbelief that this establishment could have possibly made the claims that we had read. Firstly, this is not a luxury room or experience on ANY LEVEL - there is no B&B hospitality - service is fully nonexistent, the bed sheets are poly-blend, similar blankets are available at Walmart, the pillows are inexpensive, bath towels are thin, bathroom toiletries are dollar store brands, and the coffee and snacks are convenience store quality. There's no Kleenex available, toilet paper is single ply -- I could go on and on. The radiators are poorly functioning and loud. There's no onsite breakfast so it's not quite a B...&B. They offer a voucher to a diner, not a lovely cafe -- it's an 18 minute walk and, if driving, in a difficult area to park. Our server told us that 1/3 of their customers are drug addicts serviced in the surrounding buildings. The diner staff was absolutely lovely, btw!! The $20 voucher doesn't quite cover a basic breakfast + a cup of coffee and it cannot be used for the service tip. The lovely veranda in the photos looks in part at a large paved parking area from where the B&B operates its trolley tours - groups of about 20 people assemble multiple times a day on the weekends -- the main house is included in some of the tours. There is a fountain pool but no garden or grounds. The house, an 1887 Queen Anne Victorian, has been radically modified -- its stone facade has been clad in wood and historically incorrect and unfortunate 'grand' modifications have been made exterior as well as interior. Two great danes roam the property unleashed. We did not interact with a single B&B employee after check-in -- at which time we received no assistance with moving our bags to the top floor. The room rates are fully out of line with the experience and all of the little extra fees add to the feeling that they are just about collecting your money. Disappointing.

Better than a dream!

Staying at 300 Clifton felt like walking into a Jane Austen novel. The mansion and grounds are breathtakingly immaculate and you get access to most of the mansion for your entire stay. My favorite thing besides the chandelier over the bed was the little koi pond. The amazing hosts provide fish food so that you can feed the fish and ducks in their beautiful garden. Unfortunately, we did not have time to experience watching a movie in Gertrude’s; however Gabby was more than happy to let us see the basement and we will definitely be doing that add on during our next stay. Gabby and Tony were very friendly and full of knowledge about not only the mansion, but the surrounding area. Lastly, although we did not pay for the 4 course breakfast, there were delicious pastries and coffee every morning which was not expected, but thoroughly enjoyed.
