More of an inmate than a guest. I bought the below points to Management and quite frankly there was little understanding, customer care or decorum. I felt more like I was talking to a dictator who did not want a discussion, I was told "this is the way things are". I had initiated a private conversation, yet they recommenced it in the breakfast room in front of other customers. Maybe they are used to the complaints and this how they now choose to deal with them? It was incredible.
We bought through Booking ( £148 ) and at the point of making the purchase there was little mention of the need to pay extra for bedding. This would not have been a problem for us as we had previously stayed in mountain and lakeside lodges that clearly specified that by using your own bedding there would be no charge for these and it was an option for the customer, made very obvious. But when we arrived here, not particularly late in the day, we had to book in through an automated kiosk. Before gaining access to the room via the code offered at the kiosk, we had pay a further 30 euros for bedding. There was nobody to discuss this with, it was a question of losing £148 or paying the extra 30E. This is meant to be a hotel and not a hostel. £148 would have been a good nights stay in a decent hotel. It cost us the best part of £180.
Whilst we were there a couple, one of whom was disabled arrived in the car park. This hostel had 41 rooms and 15 parking spaces none of which were marked for the disabled. The overspill carpark is a 300m walk. With bags, with family and when we arrived, in the rain. When I approached Management they said that the over spill was 15m away. A blatant lie to my face.
The stairs are probably original. I guess this because they have tiny treads and would not under and circumstances pass modern building standards. Ok, so you are a little more careful. But at the top of the stairs was an aluminium trimmer that quite frankly could have not been better designed if the intention was to trip you up and send you barrelling down the stairs.
We had a large room, open plan with a double bedroom off. The aircon was undersized and did not cool the place down. In the middle of the night I arose and stood in a pool of water that had come from the aircon unit. I had to turn it off before there was permanent damage to the flooring. So we were all a much hotter than we would have wanted and thus very uncomfortable.
The "Welcome" book includes rules. A number of the rules relate to the prohibition of the use, and sale of drugs. No parties with Heavy Metal. Really? The first time I have ever come across that. Also there was a section about fines that could be imposed at the discretion of staff. It's a hostel.
The breakfast was unappealing and the scrambled eggs were burnt. How do you turn scrambled eggs black with burn? They don't really care about the customer experience.
We all accept a bit of give and take. We work round things. But the attitude was the icing on the cake.
I hope never to make a similar mistake when booking hotels in the future.

More of a hostel than a hotel
The rooms are quite adequate, the luxury rooms are more "rustic" than luxurious. The regular rooms are smaller but seem to be newer. We were fortunate enough to get rooms with AC (thanks to the lovely woman from the hotel who helped us check in when we arrived early). Without AC the rooms would have been unbearably hot.
The rooms were clean with nice showers, and the luxury room had bath products from Rituals. The beds were good, but had green plastic mattress covers, which I am not a big fan of.
The restaurant was closed, and only served breakfast, it was basic but did have poffertjes, which was a nice surprise.
All in all it was fine for one night but we wouldn't come back.
