Good beachside restaurant

Had lovely lunch on the sand and will return tomorrow for a menu much more varied than the norm in this area (Sikka regency). Even pork available, although must be ordered a day in advance. Friendly staff with above average English skills. Beach is mediocre. We regret not staying here instead of Capa resort 10 minutes closer to town.

A very nice, quiet, beach front stay in Maumere.

We found Sea World after staying at another Maumere beach hotel for a couple days. We're glad we made the move! Sea World has basic, but very nice, bungalows on the beach with veranda's to enjoy. The restaurant was good and prices fair. The beach is great for swimming. The sea bottom is just sand - no rocks or creatures. Jasmine and her crew are very helpful. They also have motorbikes for rent on site so your not stuck to the location. The property is now owned by a local non-profit foundation and so the revenue goes back into the community.

Only a shadow of his former self

This resort is quite hidden, and can be found by those who know the area via a footpath. After a friendly greeting, we go to our room, although we were never sure whether it was the private villa we had booked or a beachfront suite. It didn't matter, it was for two nights. The room is clean, the furnishings, especially the bathroom, are quite old. Corrosion on all the taps, tiles with a funny pattern like from the 70s/80s. The air conditioning in the bedroom does its best, but can't quite cope with the heat. At least there is a wide, comfortable bed with a good mosquito net. A closet, one that probably once contained a minibar. No safe, no TV. A nice terrace and short distances in the resort. We had the impression that only a few rooms were being used - by both guests and staff. A handful of guests. Here you have peace and quiet, and you ask yourself: has it always been like this or is the hotel on a long, slow path to oblivion?
The food: we had booked bed and breakfast, in the evening we were given a fairly long menu. We couldn't shake the impression that people here no longer cook themselves but buy from a dealer. At least the food was simple, tasty and digestible, and quite cheap. In the morning there was a breakfast that was unique in its simplicity. Two or three types of toast, some margarine and butter, coffee. At least we were offered to make eggs, but we had lost our appetite. Water is available free of charge from a dispenser all day.
The diving school has also seen better days. The two resort-owned ships have probably been lying dry for years and are boarded by palm trees. To go diving, it takes half an hour to go to a fishing port and onto a tuk-tuk. This then chugs along quietly to a diving spot with its loud diesel noise. A two-tank dive takes up a whole day here. At least there is water and lunch. All for 1.5 million rupees if you bring your own equipment, which is borderline for what is offered.
The staff and the team at the diving school are the best thing about the hotel: friendly, if not particularly quick. Tourism seems to have either never reached this part of the world or forgotten about it. It was OK for us for a two-day stopover before the diving safari, but staying here for a week or longer? Sorry, never.

Great Place to Stay When Visiting Maumere

I have stayed here many times and really enjoy the resort. Alfred and Jasmine are the managers and very efficient at taking care of your needs. The resort is right on the beach which is cleaned daily. I love the home made black rice bread they serve for breakfast. The beach villas offer a great ocen View. Thanks and see you next ime.

Fantastic experience.

Shortly after making the reservation via Booking.com I received an email from the manager
Mr. Alfred with the offer to pick us up or drop us off (4 people) from the airport. We had our own minibus so pick-up was not necessary. Arriving at this quietly located resort directly on the beach, it exceeded all expectations. We had booked two bungalows with side sea views, but strangely enough they were located directly on the beach with frontal sea views. So in itself a stroke of luck. These spacious bungalows on stilts have excellent air conditioning, good beds, a large cupboard to store suitcases and clothing and a spacious bathroom. We had the last two bungalows in a row, numbers 7 and 8, the only disadvantage of which was that the WiFi signal was insufficient. After we told the manager about this, the installation of an extra router was immediately started the next day and this problem was solved. The curtains partly came loose from the rod and there were a few more things that needed maintenance, but after a difficult period of Covid 19, they were well on their way to getting everything back in order. Breakfast consists partly of a simple buffet and is eaten on the beach under the trees in the shade. Dinner is also served there in the evening by the friendly staff with candlelight. There is an extensive menu and the quality of the food is excellent. In short, we had a great 4-day ending to our trip through Flores here and received free transport to the airport afterwards.
Thanks Mr. Alfred and the staff.
