Definitely the better option
Rooms: very good, clean, provides english channels for sports, news, and some comedy shows. Room facility is well provided, with a washing machine, ironing board, good wifi speed and toilet amenities. Had to leave early and the house keeper was kind enough to help put my laundry out to dry. The only downside to the room, the toilet floor is mossy and when you take a shower, the water leaks out of the glass door leaving a great puddle of water which might make you slip and fall.
staff had been very helpful with everything after all the major international hotel brand disappointments I had to go through. Those planning to stay here, they offer discounted price for rooms for longer stay.

End of the Great Wall
The apartment was comfortable enough but the general cleanliness and maintenance let it down.
As we had a Chinese national in our party there were no problems with communication so cannot comment on knowledge of English for staff.
Facilities were good and free wifi appreciated as problems with SIM cards meant waiting to be back at the hotel before communicating home to Australia. Free wireless WiFi supported Facetime video calls however video streaming was a bit jerky so obviously not full bandwidth.

Great Hotel
We decided to use this hotel as our base to commute to and from Shanhaiguan.
There's a Bus stop right outside the hotel for trips to Shanhaiguan. (30 min bus ride one way).
This hotel is right in the middle of town.
All the hotel staff were very Professional & Courteous.
The hotel was clean.(Room were en suite).
It cost us approx.€30 per person per night. (this was in June 2012).
The hotel accepted credit cards.

Quality hotel
Our room was big, clean and had a high quality to it: everything about it certainly met a 3* standard or better. We had a good view from the 13th floor room as well! Our room included breakfast which was a fantastic buffet with dozens of things to choose from. Amusingly, our breakfast each day was accompanied with Xmas music (in October). There is also a chilled out bar next to the lobby to take in a drink in the evening.
In the unlikely event that we have reason to visit Qinhuangdao again, we would definitely look to stay here.
